This past spring, Amsterdam-based label Music From Memory began to look back on the ten years of the label while also looking ahead to the future, assembling tracks from the many artists who had their careers revived (Gigi Masin, Suso Saiz, Joan Biblioni) or kickstarted by (Alex Ho, Yu Su) the imprint. Things were looking up for the decade ahead when the news came out that label founder Jamie Tiller had died tragically in a freak accident. Now the compilation 10 arrives with an indelible cast about it, a mix of joy, sadness, mourning, and zeal. Which was basically the label’s forte all along, sussing out music from the past and present that could speak to the tragic and joyous elements of life, sometimes within the same track. By turns contemplative and celebratory, it now serves as a fitting farewell to Tiller.
