At the end of the 1980s, Taylor formed the Feel Trio with bassist William Parker and drummer Tony Oxley. At the end of August 1990, the group played five nights at Ronnie Scott’s in London; all ten sets were recorded for this box. Each disc contains a single piece of between 30 and 45 minutes; two also include short encores. The Feel Trio was one of Taylor’s most democratic groups, and this music is all about the balance between Taylor’s sharp, metallic piano, Parker’s heartfelt, jazzy bass lines, and Oxley’s abstract, clattery percussion. Unity is rare, but they often achieve real profundity through sympathetic simultaneity.
