Adam and Eve

Released

The next to last Catherine Wheel album was both the last to appear on the Fontana label as well as the last to feature the original lineup, with bassist Dave Hawes departing two years later. As an overall unintentional swansong of sorts, however, Adam and Eve was quite lovely, the quartet even more accomplished in its balance of shoegaze overload, 90s alt rock vibes and classic rock moves. Rob Dickinson’s vocals, Brian Futter’s guitar and their combined songwriting hit an excellent Neil Young-meets-David Gilmour vein on stately songs like “Phantom of the American Mother” and “Ma Solituda.”
