Parannoul’s reputation internationally reached a new level in early 2023 with its third album After the Magic, a shimmering sparkle of an album from the South Korean act that continued a balance between contemplative emo, stirring shoegaze overdrive and piano and string-touched artpop. The still anonymous core musician, in combination with various guests, hits things brilliantly out of the gate with the building flow of “북극성 (Polaris)” while other songs like “도착 (Arrival)” and “Sound Inside Me, Waves Inside You” demonstrate his ear for sonic melodrama.
