Death Magic

Released

Shoegaze for rivetheads, HEALTH’s third proper full-length (not counting videogame soundtracks or remix records) sanded down some of the rougher edges from Get Color and showed they were more interested in being Nine Inch Nails than Liars. “Flesh World (UK)” hits the listener with big beats that wouldn’t be out of place on the Mortal Kombat soundtrack, “Men Today” pulled some of the dissonant machinery out from the woodshed, and “Dark Enough” throws a black celebration. When Jacob Duzsik’s diffident croon declares “Love is not in our hearts” on “Stonefist” he’s both lying and stating the band’s central thesis.
