Carti trolled the olds by turning rap into some denatured form of punk, or more precisely, he forgot that rap had any roots in soul and funk and simply dumbed it down. He made himself look like HR backflipping off the drum riser for the album cover and emptied the songs of everything but the simple and the crass. Any moron can sing along but only one moron figured this formula out. Rhythms? Sort of! Beats? Why not. Melodies? What your uncle taps out on the Lil Infant keyboard on Xmas morning? Check. Everything feels both legible and blurry—that is the Carti genius.
