Dionysus

Released

Dedicated to singer Frank Lovece, who Lisa Gerrard knew in her early days in music in Melbourne when he sang for the Primitive Calculators, Dionysius found her and Brendan Perry creating what in some ways was the most atypical Dead Can Dance album yet recorded. Split into two long pieces, Perry and Gerrard’s focus here is found less on their absolutely compelling voices than their interpretations of the Dionysus myth filtered through multiple musical and linguistic lenses. It’s a fairly bold move for such an established act, but is often quite involving.
