The third of three versions of the original Gabrielle album as first released in 2017, 2022’s Gabrielle (Expanded Edition) finds Dead Witch Flying embracing possibilities of electronic production to create instrumental meditations on, as she discusses in her liner notes, her realization of a truer trans self. With titles such as “Your New Life Starts Now” and “Resistance is Futile” setting the tone, Gabrielle reworks 80s-adjacent keyboard tones and beats to create ominous atmospheres, subtle melodies and a sense of reworking the self into a different being.
