IV cover

The second of four full-length albums that Magic In Threes put out in 2016, IV is another extremely successful project that combines classic late sixties and early seventies soul, funk and jazz sounds with influences from library music and film and TV soundtracks. Opener 60s Spring is appropriately named, a fresh, bittersweet, low-paced Chi-soul instrumental, and Sunshine occupies the same poignant, sweet-soul territory. There’s a broad range of genre-hopping here, with the intense torch-soul of Ringworld and proto-disco track Come On Down contrasting nicely with Vida Lago’s spacy bossa nova and the waltz rhythm of Cinema Six Eight. One of their strongest collections.
