Inward

Originally emerging as a tour release in 2018, Inward is one of Hotel Neon’s most expansive commitments to their embrace of free-floating sonic mood, consisting of two essentially untitled vinyl-sidelong compositions that each explore a variety of approaches instead of simply aiming for one sound throughout. The sudden near violin-like motifs that emerge on “Side A” after a few minutes turn the track from gleaming light to something near tearful, while on “Side B” there’s a stronger presence of guitar feedback tones carefully shaped into a murmuring crumble.
