With its title taken from a comment to a DJ friend of his during a club gig, Drew Daniel’s 2022 full length Soft Pink Truth effort was another striking highlight of his work under the name, aiming to create, per the liner notes, a ‘virtual disco band’ given COVID’s continuing impact drawn from performers around the world. At once an elegant, spacious celebration of disco’s trance jams – the classic bell sounds on the opening “Deeper” alone are perfect – and an exploration of drones, ambience and the occasional lyric, it’s an exploratory rapture.
