Actually recording at the Brooklyn-based Black nationalist cultural center of the title proved logistically impossible, so Pharoah Sanders and his band brought fans into the studio with them. The three long tracks on this single LP exemplify spiritual jazz at its most ecstatic and churning, with two bassists, two drummers and plenty of shaking bells surrounding and framing the leader’s wailing, mantra-like saxophone eruptions.
