Mort Aux Vaches

Released

Bearing a title that could be translated into English as “death to the pigs” (where “pigs” refers to police), Mort Aux Vaches continues Muslimgauze’s ongoing exploration of politically-charged instrumental music based on loops, beats, and found-sound samples. The found sounds are often field recordings of people speaking or singing in Arabic; the beats are heavily repetitive and dub-influenced; the tracks, in this case, are long (the longest almost 30 minutes). But as always, there’s something deeply and weirdly compelling about the music; it’s not trance-inducing, exactly, but it’s definitely involving.
