Religious to Damn and Azar Swan veteran Zohra’s 2023 solo debut at once draws on the dark industrial/electronic edges of her earlier work while finding new ways to make her combination of musical mood, often cutting lyrical observation and serene vocals stick all the more. Songs like the opening “Discipline” – Throbbing Gristle and NIN aren’t the only acts who can make that title work – and “Look for Love,” not to mention the Lydia Lunch-guesting title track, hit a deep intense throb to add to the impact. Most unsettling song title: “Drones in a Sea of Swallows.”
