Fantastic historical blend that someone has almost certainly called “hauntological.” Mounir used recordings of Egyptian singers taken close to the turn of the 19th century going into the 20th and fleshed them out with instruments that don’t sound radically removed from what might have been heard at the time. There are some electronic interventions but Mounir is largely creating a live band simulacrum that is so good it doesn’t even sound stitched together.
