Segundo

Released

The album that introduced Argentine folk-electronica artist Juana Molina to the wider world, Segundo still reveals its charms slowly, but surely, a slow pan across a fervid environment, blooming with tightly woven electronics and clanging, jingling guitar strings. Molina’s achievements here are many, but two in particular stand out: firstly, her capacity for wringing gentle melody out of even the densest, most enriched and layered blocks of electronic sound; secondly, the way her fluid, lush guitar playing, which often takes on shapes loosely associated with bossa nova, blossoms out of such pools of glittering texture. In amongst it all, Molina sings to herself, almost absentmindedly, sighing quietly into the microphone as clocks tick, birds sing, dogs bark.
