His final years are a long weird slog, with some bright points. This album was recorded with old friends, John Giblin on bass, Spencer Cozen on keys and Arran Ahmun on drums, while Martyn was living in the church across from his house. It’s all covers, mostly blues with Dead Can Dance and Portishead thrown in to keep things confusing. His cover of “Glory Box” has racked up an oddly huge number of Spotify plays. And it’s good! But not the best song here.
