It might have been the ravages of COVID in 2020 making people a little more hungry for compellingly catchy synthpop from masters of the form in both upbeat and moodier modes, but The Neon found Erasure’s audience still with them after World Be Gone, perhaps precisely because Vince Clarke and Andy Bell treated it as a back-to-the-roots album for the electronic age. Clarke busted out some of his oldest synths, Bell’s older but not weathered voice was in fine form, and solid tunes like “Hey Now (Think I Got a Feeling)” kept their creative flow intact.
