The Parable of the Poet

Vibraphonist Ross writes particularly well for horns, and this somber, intense album is a feat of controlled playing and dynamic mastery. One of the least flashy jazz albums in recent memory, it has the emotional impact of a funeral and the tonal sweep of a Joan Mitchell painting.
