The third album by Oakland-based artist SPELLLING, The Turning Wheel captures her on the cusp of expanding her range into new sonic realms. The sense of home recording and darker, goth-tinged moods on “Queen of Wands” and “Revolution” remains intact, but the opening “Little Bird” showcases a love for warm 70s soul and funk, orchestral arrangements adding to an air of lush indulgence.
