In 1990, saxophonist Charles Lloyd made a soft landing in ECM waters after a protracted jump from the music scene. Fourteen years later, he would go cosmic with drummer Billy Higgins for this mosaic of worship and balladry. In addition to Lloyd’s trusty tenor, we hear him on the Tibetan oboe, tarogato, alto saxophone, and piano. Across two discs of material, the duo kneads the dough of life experience into shapes in which any listener should see themselves reflected. The archival feel makes it all the more important for documenting such a meeting of hearts and minds.
