BDF Meets Loud & Lone

Released

With a name apparently intended as a tribute to London’s Asian Dub Foundation, Basque Dub Foundation was organized by Basque expat Iñaki Yarritu. Given the long history of separatist ferment in his home region, one might expect the content of their second album to have a strong political element – but somewhat surprisingly, it doesn’t. Yarritu collaborated with production duo Loud & Lone (fellow Spaniards Roberto Sanchez & Borja Juanco) this time out, producing a solid set of very traditional and very heavyweight roots reggae – with accompanying dub versions for all vocal tracks. From the album-opening sufferer’s anthem “Judgement Time” to the melodica-driven “Breaking the Rules” that closes it, BDF Meets Loud & Lone demonstrates definitively that you don’t have to have any connection to Jamaica to make world-class reggae music.
