Takk...

Critics have always described Sigur Rós in terms that mirrored the physical characteristics of the band’s native Iceland – majestic, grand, glacial. But on Takk…, the post-rock group focused its signature elements into its most accessible work. “Hoppipolla” became a major hit (in Iceland, at least) by employing cavernous rhythms, electric guitar bowed like a droning cello and singer Jonsi’s haunting falsetto in the service of an indelible melodic and orchestral structure that approached that of a pop song. It became a definitive moment for the band, as did the volcanic “Glósóli” and menacing “Saeglópur” – and formed the core of one of Sigur Rós’ best albums.
